Frequently Asked Questions

What is an escape room?

Traditionally, Escape Rooms are one hour, live-action games for teams of two or more. The goal is to solve puzzles, find clues, and unlock the secrets of the room before the time runs out.

Some of our games run a little differently, but puzzle solving and teamwork are still the core features.

Who can play?

Anyone! Whether a team of friends, family, colleagues or hens/stags, we accommodate for all. We are happy to have children’s groups where parents don’t go into the room and watch from our control room.

We want to encourage anyone who is on the fence to come and try, or give us a call and we will be happy to talk through any questions you might have about the game experience, or what is involved.

How to play

There’s no right or wrong way to play an escape room, but here’s some tips and tricks to keep in mind:

  • You will never need outside knowledge – all the answers can be found within the room.
  • Search nice and thoroughly! You never know where we might be hiding a key or a clue.
  • All codes will open only one lock, all keys will open only one lock. Once you’re done with it, feel free to leave it in the lock so you know you won’t need to use it again.
  • Communicate!

Are your games unique?

Yes, our rooms are designed and built by us. There is nowhere else in the world where you can play our games. We think it’s important to have that personal touch.

How long do we have?

Your team will have up to 75 minutes to solve all the puzzles and beat the room.

Can the physically impaired/elderly play?

Yes, our venue is step-free. We have no physical obstacles in the rooms, and offer seating both in the rooms and in our waiting areas.

I have claustrophobia/anxiety, can I play?

Yes, our rooms are themed but not restrictive. There are windows in both rooms and an emergency key on the back of each door.

Can a hard of hearing/deaf team play?

Absolutely. We can tailor the rooms for deaf teams and all clues are typed onto a screen in the room.

Are there any age restrictions?

We recommend 7+ but will not stop anyone from having a try. Children under the age of 6 are free.

Children under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult at the venue, but the adult does not need to go into the room with them.

To reassure any potentially older customers, we ensure there is seating in all our games, and there is no climbing or crawling involved in playing our games. If you’re a member of the U3A or WI we have discounts as well.

Are your rooms scary?

Not at all, we are a family-friendly venue and our escape rooms do not use pyrotechnics, loud noises, jumps scares or other frightening elements.

When are you open?

We are open 7 days a week: 10am to 9pm (last room starts at 8pm).

Is there somewhere to park my car?

Yes, there is plenty of free parking on site.

Do you have a refund policy?

We try to be as flexible as possible. We will always look to change your booking to another convenient date/time, or make a note of an outstanding booking for you to choose an alternative date later. For full details, please follow this link: https://cryptx.co.uk/cancellations-policy/
